Why does it feel like today is the first day of school?
When I was a kid, I vividly remember not being able to sleep the night before the first day of school. Mind racing. Heart racing. Nerves flaring. The end of relaxing summer coupled with the start of the unknown AND familiar work of school.
I still get that first day of school feeling quite a lot. Every Sunday in fact. I get a mild case, knowing the weekend is over, John returns to work, and its back to the solitary weekly routine with the kids coupled with the unknown quantity of my mood and mental health for the week.
Yesterday ended a 9-day stretch of vacation with John, the kids, my parents and my brother’s family. It was so lovely, relaxing and fun. Yes, even with 4 kids under 4 in tow. We truly enjoyed our once in a lifetime Alaskan cruise family vacation.
And now it feels like the first day of school. Mind racing. Heart racing. Nerves flaring. Magnified by an incredible week away with lots of family support.
The end of vacation sucks.
