This Saturday is our Out of the Darkness Walk for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Our team has currently raised over $2,200 for the cause of suicide prevention.
It’s been kind of a bittersweet week for me. I’ve been thinking of Dina A LOT, which makes me both smile and cry. The grief of suicide is such a sneaky bastard. It often times just pops up and kicks me in the gut.
I was going through some of my handbags last night and came across one I hadn’t used in forever. Inside was this photo from my wedding in 2004. Me, Heather, Dina & Kirsten. Marina del Rey, California.
I’m taking it with me on the walk. I sort of feel like she led me to it to let me know she’s proud of all that we’ve accomplished. That she’s finally at peace, and she wants us to be too.
If you’ve lost someone to suicide, please feel free to leave a comment with their name or initials or however you feel comfortable identifying him or her. I’ll add them to my heart’s list of loved ones lost.
I’ll walk for them as well on Saturday.
P.S. If you feel inspired to do so, please feel free to donate to any member of our team on our AFSP fundraising page. Thank you so very much for your generous support.
