I’ve always loved shopping. Not because I like spending money but because to me its a fun distraction. Just ask my husband, I’m the queen of going out for a few hours (when I can get away from the kids) looking at and trying on numerous things from clothing to jewelry to shoes and then walking out empty handed or with a $10 item that was originally $50.
Knowing my husband’s holiday party was coming up, I went to one of my favorite places to shop Nordstrom Rack. (Yay! for quality at a discount.) And after trying on loads of cocktail dresses, I found the adorable Adrianna Papell dress (below) for about 70% OFF retail price. Woot!
Then I was playing around on Polyvore and found the exact dress I had bought.
If you’re unfamiliar with Polyvore, its actually a really fun distraction too! It almost feels to me like my style of shopping. You can put together little “sets” of outfits and accessories and save them to your profile. There are lots of great ideas for holiday party style, in fact. I just recently joined and have found a few fun contests and things to participate in, and enjoy. Again, an awesome distraction. (If interested, you can follow me on Polyvore at motherunadorned).
So here’s the “set” I created. I wish I could afford the beautiful Michael Kors clutch (I just love teal) but alas, it is very much out of reach.
Over the summer I was told by a stylist that gold would be a big fall accessory color, so I also found some lovely black & gold jewelry to go with it, also on sale at The Rack. Tiered necklace, hoop earrings and stacked bracelets (Nordstrom brand). I also wore simple black Mary Jane pumps (not shown.) I really like the black and cream lace detail of the top. It makes is a bit more special than an all black cocktail dress.
I’ve also read that deep jewel-tone colors are really hot for fall/winter, especially dark green and oxblood red. How fun and funky is this holiday outfit. I feel like I just tried on a $1,500 skirt and didn’t leave the house. 😉
What did you wear, or are you wearing for your company holiday party?! Isn’t it fun to have a chance or two to dress up this time of year?
