My brother in law and his fiancé are getting married next year. A destination wedding in the Philippines! I’m so excited to visit another country and celebrate their happy union. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a family wedding, almost as long as its been since my own. And next year will be our 10th anniversary. Wow.
I’m extra excited because they live here in the Seattle area and I’m SO looking forward to helping her shop for the perfect dress. Looking back, I felt like I rushed much too quickly into buying my own and never really savored the experience. I think I only tried on 3 or 4 dresses.
How silly of me not to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience longer, taking lots of time to hunt down the absolutely perfect dress. I love dress shopping. And I adore bargain hunting for quality just as Grandma taught me. Oh to have been in the eBay days!
I mean, I did love my dress, and I got it for what I thought was a good deal (a strapless “sample” dress in ivory silk satin) but I probably could have found an even better one had I spent a little more time on the task. Back then I was all about checking off the to-do list.
If eBay or other second hand bridal outlets had been big online, I certainly could have price shopped more. But sadly no, this was 10 years ago. My penchant for online research didn’t really exist then.
And oh my gosh don’t even get me started on Pinterest! (By the way, please follow me on Pinterest HERE.) I almost want to plan a wedding just to get to use it. Don’t worry John, you’d still be the groom! 🙂 I mean look at this gorgeousness from my soon-to-be sister-in-law Marie’s Pinterest Wedding Ideas board:
Back then, my version of Pinterest was a wedding binder with pics cut out from magazines. You know you did that too. Didn’t you?
Anyway, I really can’t wait to go with Marie. Not only to tag along on her quest for THE dress. But also to celebrate next spring at the perfect destination wedding. Having great things to look forward to, and happily dream–obsess–about is great self care! Yeah, I said it, sometimes obsessing feels good.
Tell me about your dress shopping quest. Did you check it off the to-do list like me? Or savor the experience?
And if any of you have recommendations for Seattle wedding dress shopping, we’re all ears!
