Its been 2 years since I last attended BlogHer Conference, so I’m using the power of positive thinking and am putting it in writing–right here, right now–that I WILL attend BlogHer ’13 next month in Chicago. I actually already have my conference pass and a place to stay, so I *just* have to cover my flight and childcare while I’m gone. I think I can! I think I can! I think I can!
I’m looking forward to it for many reasons. In 2011 it was inspiring and thought provoking, and I made connections on both personal and professional levels that have enabled me to keep blogging, help others, and raise even more funds for worthy mental health charities. Right now, I’m trying to morph from mainly writing for no pay into creating a space that helps others, while also giving our family a bit of extra income. I’m sure you can understand its hard to keep blogging for free when I know I can learn more about SEO and monetizing my blog in relevant and unobtrusive ways.
Its important to me to keep helping others, and fighting for mental health and suicide prevention. I will never stop doing THAT. But I also want to get paid for some of my writing, and offer even more cool content related to self image, creative outlets, style and overall physical and mental well being. Sound good?
I’m also super excited to think about BlogHer purely for the fun of it. I mean seriously, how often do I, a stay at home mom of 2 pre-schoolers, get the chance to be a professional woman in public? Attend conference sessions, networking events and parties with other professional men and women. The other weekend when I went to DC for the walk, it was so nice to attend the VIP Reception, get to plan my wardrobe, and meet and talk to other people passionate about suicide prevention.
For BlogHer I get to plan my “conference style” and will meet, network, and yes, party with other people passionate about blogging, another thing I dearly love.
My roomie Kerri @_themaven and I were just chatting today about the lovely nursing wear she’ll be donning for the event while she babywears her munchkin son at the conference. And of course the shoes! She is the red shoe maven after all!
For me, I took a stab at a little aspirational set on Polyvore. The only elements of this set that I will actually own at BlogHer are the iphone and Everpurse (the clutch purse that charges your smartphone) but a girl can dream about the fashion to go with my new clutch. By the way, Everpurse is NOT paying me to say this. I just love their product so much that I can’t stop talking about it. 😉 Are you on Polyvore? Come follow me! motherunadorned
If you’re headed to BlogHer ’13 leave me a comment below, or shoot me a DM or tweet so we can connect. I’d LOVE to meet any of you who plan to be there.
And if you’ve never been, here’s a BIG TIP! It is invaluable to make connections beforehand. BlogHer is SUCH a big conference with thousands of attendees, many of whom have gone to multiple blogging conferences and have their own tribe of friends. Its easy to feel shy around these groups of fabulous men and women.
So let’s connect!
