Picture it: A nice quiet moment laying back in the recliner, no one else in the house, with the fire on if its chilly (our weather has been so on and off lately!) and a soothing warm cup of Bigelow tea in my hand. I might be reading a great book, or a just close my eyes briefly to soak in the pure blissful peace.
Now that is self care.
I of course could be cleaning up those toys right there, or a million and one other chores while both the kids are in school, but I’m choosing to make that precious time about me, relaxation, reading, watching a good show, writing and volunteer work I’m passionate about, not the kids or the chores.
Yesterday I was just saying that I needed a mute button, yes in reference to the kids. They never stop chattering. There is always noise when they’re around and after a while it starts to strike a nerve. We’ve been together so very much all summer long, even they were getting annoyed with each other.
So I picked up some Bigelow Tea.
Tea is an afternoon favorite of mine because I don’t like to drink as much caffeine later in the day. It really affects my anxiety. The variety packs of herbals are great to be able to mix it up, but I also decided on Green Tea as well. It’s not totally caffeine free but its much lower than coffee.
One of the things I’ve been doing with my tea lately is adding creamer. I call them tea lattes. My favorites are the spicier teas like green tea or chai or even chamomile. Its soothing, really delicious and perfect for the calming moments I need.
John gets so jealous of my mom’s time outs. He’d love a break and I don’t blame him. While he does get out and away from the kids more than I do, I’m sure dealing with the guys are work is a lot like managing kids. haha. He’s been working so hard at a recent conference and finishing a big video game, that I’m encouraging him to start taking tea time too.
Bigelow is a great brand to choose for our tea times. It’s 100% American made by an American family. They actually have America’s largest working tea garden, Bigelow Tea’s Charleston Tea Plantation. I just learned about the plantation recently and I think its wonderful. The plantation hosts weddings, tours and even a variety of music festivals where guests experience historic Southern culture. It’s a living piece of American history. I would love to go see it. Charleston is one of my favorite places in the south, but its been about 9 years since John and I have been there.
I also really appreciate their Tea for Troops program. Bigelow has sent more than 4 million bags of tea to troops overseas, which is quite cool. No wonder their known as #AmericasTea.
I’ve decided I’m making a new school time tradition. I’m scheduling more time outs for this mom. As moms we really should take time for ourselves as much as we can. Its not selfish, its imperative for our mental health.
What are you doing this back to school to take a calming moment for yourself?
