Day 16 of 30 Days of Positive Affirmations coincides with Semicolon Project Day.
A couple of years ago I took this photo to commemorate Semicolon Project Day on April 16th. and today once again people around the world are telling the world that their stories are not over. I love the message of this campaign.
“A SEMICOLON REPRESENTS A SENTENCE THE AUTHOR COULD HAVE ENDED; BUT CHOSE NOT TO. THE AUTHOR IS YOU AND THE SENTENCE IS YOUR LIFE.”
We struggle, but we push forward. We are warriors. We haven’t given up. We have hope, and if we don’t, we go find it. We are fighters because we are here, right now, at this very moment, reading this.
Often times those struggling might use a physical symbol or sign to help push forward. There are people in this world who self-harm in many different ways, and a mark of remembrance can help us stop and change our behavior. (If you are struggling today, please reach out. 800-273-TALK (8255) or more mental health resources here.)
I have a big blue-haired fairy tattoo on my forearm for example. Its a permanent mark on me and my life, reminding me of those I’ve lost, the loves I have, and that I am a fighter. It’s a gorgeous, strong blue-haired warrior goddess (based on art by Seattle fantasy artist Amy Brown.)
Clearly I am on board with using symbols to encourage ourselves and others to stay strong and fight.
So the Semicolon project resonated with me and is inspiration for today’s positive affirmation. The 2nd half of today’s affirmation is inspired by my friend Brian and his Hindsight Life project. He’s actually inspired me for years with his passion and am so proud of where he is today.
Affirmation #16
Especially if you’re struggling today, this is a really important affirmation to repeat to yourself. But even if you’re not depressed it’s so important to remember that our story isn’t over, it’s a story we tell each day and we CAN make it a page turner. The day to day can feel so blah and boring a lot of the time, but it doesn’t have to be. We need to try as hard as we can to enjoy each moment, even the small ones.
Are you making life a page turner?
