Injecting a Little Life

Filed Under: Fashion, Giveaways, Marketing/Social Media

You may have noticed a new logo hanging it’s hat up top. I’m happy to say  my site has now officially changed from Motherhood Unadorned to Life Unadorned.

For the past 5 years the old name has served me well. I started the blog when Ellie was just about a year old when motherhood was my whole world. It still is in many ways with a 6-year-old and 8-year-old, but as they grow and change I have come to realize that my life and this blog is much more than motherhood, and I really want it to be!

Plus, it was such a long name.

So I am injecting a little LIFE into my life and into this blog.

I spent the month of April recovering from a multi-month depression with my 30 Days of Affirmations and after that time I knew that I really needed a change. The change moved slowly, but it’s now finalized! I updated my social handles to @lifeunadorned and now have a new URL and blog design at lifeunadorned.com.

In April, May and June things went pretty well on the mental health front, but of course when the sun is shining in summer there’s a lot to make me happy. As I kicked off the travel season with two Florida trips (Key West with friends and the Tampa Bay Area with family) and a really spectacular whale watching trip in the Pacific Northwest, things felt great.

Now the regular grind of summer has it’s hold on me. The kids are home all of the time and are bickering a lot and it’s hard for me to get my work done. I also find that I need some time alone to be inside of my own head without the constant “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy” and they don’t go back to school for another 20 days.

So focusing on the evolution of my site is a great way to help keep my spirits up. Change can be great for the ole mental health!

Distraction and change is good.

And injecting some life!

Around the time that I started to get on an upswing emotionally, a friend and colleague of mine introduced me to the clothing line LuLaRoe. You’ve probably heard of their “butter soft leggings” but they also carry many other lovely styles for women, kids and even men of all shapes and sizes. Here I’m wearing black leggings and an “Amelia” dress that has pockets. LOVE!

And here I’m wearing a “Nicole” dress that my little stylist Ellie actually picked out for me. It’s a pretty wild print but I like it!

I have several friends who sell LuLaRoe, including my friend and colleague Samantha who first introduced me to it. The tagline of her blog Mixed Prints is “The Passionate Pursuit of a Bold Life.” It perfectly describes what I wish I could do, but I often feel lost in the doing. Finding my passion and bliss is definitely an ongoing process and sometimes a murky one.

It may sound silly but the clothes I wear can really help build my confidence if I feel good in them. Mixing prints isn’t something I’ve ever felt comfortable doing, nor is wearing wild leggings. I was always afraid of what I looked like, what others might think. But I love to dress up for Halloween for example, so I thought I’d give it a try.

I’ve discovered that it’s pretty fun, and I feel like I’m focusing more on me and less on everyone else all of the time.

Plus there’s that level of the fun of the hunt. All the pieces are limited editions and the consultants, many of whom are stay-at-home or work-from-home moms, have different inventory. There’s less of a competitive feel to it.  I’ve ended up purchasing pieces from several of my friends who sell it. I love supporting small business, and I love feeling good in the clothes that I wear.

I’ve even been considering selling it but so far I have not taken any steps to do it. But I did go over to my friend Kimberley’s when she received her initial inventory and helped her unpack and hang it. That was actually really fun. Who knows what the future will hold, but one thing I do know is that I’m still trying to find my bliss. Rebranding my blog is a first step. We’ll see what happens.

In the meantime, I’m offering a LuLaRoe leggings giveaway!
