With trepidation I hopped on the scale and the number that popped up was about 10 pounds more than I was expecting. (And even the number I expected isn’t the best number for me.)
Four years ago I hit a similar point with my body image and took action. I did a high protein diet called Dukan and it worked very well for me. I’m not a serial dieter in general but after having kids and now being over 40, the ole metabolism is just not the same. And while I don’t need to be super thin, I do have a general weight range at which I feel most happy, where I feel my best, both physically and mentally.
Height: 5 feet 7.5 inches
Starting Weight: 192.4 lbs
Goal Weight Range: 160 to 170 lbs
Goal Clothing Size: 10
Ugh, these photos are so hard to share but here I am today, Thursday 9/15.
My Starting Measurements:
Hips: 47 inches
Waist: 35 inches
Chest: 40 inches
Thighs: 28.5 inches
Arms: 15 inches
After losing over 30 pounds on Dukan in 2012, I kept it off for a few years. I was able to alter my habits quite well and stick to a high protein/low carb diet. But this year things have gone to hell. I’ve been eating too many carbs and too much sugar, things that aren’t just “bad” for my weight but also my anxiety. And after looking at those photos this weekend, I finally made the decision to do something about it.
Woot! I’m so happy to find my motivation again.
On Monday, John and I started Dukan. Today is day 4 and I’m already down 3.6 pounds. I know that seems nuts but I’m telling you this diet is absolutely perfect for my body. It fits both my physical and mental self to a T. Carbs increase my anxiety so when I do this high protein diet, my mood is SO much better and obviously my weight too.
I wrote an overview of Dukan back the first time I did it, which you can find here for all of the specifics. But in general, during the first couple of phases you eat protein and vegetables only, plus a little oat bran for more fiber. You can do coffee (yay!), tea and diet drinks if you’d like, but also lots and lots of water.
I highly recommend you check it out if you’d like to take some control of your eating and weight. I was so happy to have found it. Hopefully it’ll work for you too.
I’ll be sharing status reports with you as I go because another thing I know, accountability makes a huge difference toward success. We have a little small Facebook group with friends to share our weigh ins each day for example, which keeps me going.
