Disclosure: I was invited to attend a tech event and lunch sponsored by Techlicious and the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) where I received complimentary technology gifts. No other compensation was received. This post includes affiliate links.
I’ve started thinking about holiday gifts for my family and have been in such a quandary. It is so hard to shop these days for my tween son Ronin, and also for my husband for that matter. They are both huge tech fanatics so I was thrilled the Consumer Technology Association invited me to check out new technology products recently here in Seattle. The CTA puts on the annual CES trade event and are experts in what’s hot for technology gifts.
Each Year CTA does extensive market research pulling timely intelligence for the holiday shopping season. They provide insight into what’s trending for top tech gifts ideas, and I wanted to share this insight with you.
So, what are the top tech gift ideas for this holiday shopping season?
Top Tech for the 2017 Holidays
- Video game console
- Fitness activity tracker
- Home robotic vacuum
Want to take a look back at the past? CTA also revealed the top gifts for 1997 just for fun and let me tell you we have come a LONG way.
Top 5 Tech Gifts: 1997
- Portable personal computer
- 27-inch or larger TV
- Desktop computer
I love it! A 27-inch TV. It’s been a long time since that was a big television. My husband thinks our 65-inch TV is small!
So what specific products really stood out to me at the Techlicious event? I was happy to attend because I actually found a great gift idea for Ronin. He’s really into his ipad and video gaming but also likes to play outside in the neighborhood with his friends, so finding a gift idea that bridges the gap between his online and offline play styles was perfect.
Gameball by Seattle-based startup Play Impossible
This Gameball is an active gaming system that takes digital action both indoors and outdoors. The ball features sensor technology giving an interactive twist to a favorite play object. More than ‘just a ball,’ the inflatable Gameball syncs to the Play Impossible app via Bluetooth for fun and challenging games where players can throw, catch, toss, spin and bounce the ball to achieve higher levels.
The minute I saw the Gameball I knew I had hit on the perfect gift idea for 10-year-old Ronin.
iHome ISP100 WiFi Outdoor-Rated Smartplug
My husband John is a bit obsessed with making our home a smart home. We’ve got the locks, theremostat, lights and even garage door soon-to-be connected to our Google Home. So a smartplug is right up his ally and perfect for the holiday tree and lights we’ll be putting up.
Aftershokz Trekz Titanium Open Ear Headphones
A great gift for the fitness enthusiast is this blue tooth headphone that uses bone conduction technology to transmit audio. This is a great safety feature for those who need an ultimate level of awareness without compromising sound. Trekz Titanium are wireless, open ear sport headphones made to ensure safety, perfect for runners, cyclists, hikers and more.
I’ve been using these headphones for the last several days and really like them. I’m not a fan of traditional earbuds, as they always hurt my ears. But as these do not sit inside the ear, they are super comfortable and still transmit great sound, while allowing me keep an ear on ambient sound. I definitely recommend them.
Another great gift for health enthusiasts! This smartwatch has advanced health and fitness features including GPS, swim-tracking, on-device workouts, automatic activity and heart rate and sleep tracking, all with 5 days of battery life and an innovative lightweight design. It can be connected to Android, iOS and Windows devices.
Ecovacs DEEBOT R95
This is a gift idea for me. 🙂 A robot vacuum with multifunction vacuuming and mopping. This thing is amazing with mapping technology and connected app to allow you to easily control exactly where your vacuum goes within your home.
Do you have tech gifts on your wish list? Happy Holidays and happy gift hunting!
