Welcome to Life Unadorned.
I’m Cristi Comes. Warrior mom, wife, writer and digital influencer using my superpowers for good. I’m owner and content creator for Life Unadorned (formerly Motherhood Unadorned), and an advocate for mental health. I live near Seattle, Washington with my video game developer husband John and gamer kids, Ronin born 2007 and Ellie born 2010. I previously worked in marketing and public relations for over 15 years. Please see my Media Kit here.
Becoming a mom has had a lot of ups and downs. The challenges and hormones related to pregnancy and kids DO NOT help me out in the mood department. After Ellie’s birth I had a pretty strong episode of PPD that felt quite like a mid-life crisis, or shall I say Mama Crisis. Even for those without mental health struggles, becoming a parent can be very challenging.
I discovered that as a mom, finding creative and professional outlets helped distract, calm and entertain my mind. Being in the work world again helped me find a wonderful social outlet as well. Social media is a beautiful thing. I have met so many wonderful mamas AND women who are also running households and small businesses themselves.
I became very passionate about working with other mom businesses to promote and encourage each other. But more than that, I realized that I’m part of a very big community of moms who have a TON of very specific and very personal issues, challenges and successes that we live and breathe every day.
The core of Life Unadorned is about family. I focus on self care and self image, mental health, as well as family activities, tech and entertainment, travel and creative outlets. Diet and physical health. These are all of the ways that we as parents can be our best selves and actually enjoy this challenging life.
A Blog Inspired by Loss that has Grown into So Much More.
On Christmas 2010, a dear friend of mine died by suicide, and it truly affected me in many deep and lasting ways. That event absolutely inspired me to start this blog in early 2011, in her honor and for so many who are lost way too soon to mental illness and suicide.
Over the years I have covered topics including PPD, depression and other mental illness, but Life Unadorned has grown into so much more and is now a general lifestyle blog.
However, mental health advocacy is still very important to me. I often raise funds for mental health organizations. In 2014, I joined the Board of Directors for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention as Vice Chair of the Washington State Chapter. I’ve been on the Editorial Leadership Team for Postpartum Progress, the world’s largest resource for perinatal and postpartum mood disorders. Reaching out to those struggling is such an important aspect of the work I do and I’m very open to working with those businesses and individuals who feel the same.
Please feel free to look around. I’ve linked some of my most popular posts on entertaining and motherhood in the right sidebar. Also please check out my other tabs across the top for my current content.
