Its time for this week’s “Not a Bad Mom.” Don’t know about this weekly series, click HERE. This week is written by me, Cristi.
I’m not a bad mom because my birthday is on Thanksgiving.
I know that sounds funny but I’m actually being serious. My birthday is today. The past several years since being a mom, we’ve always hosted Thanksgiving at our house. We have lots of space. The family comes over, we eat yummy food including my special cornbread stuffing. We have some fun. We play Rock Band. Its become a wonderful tradition.
But this year, Thanksgiving is also my birthday and I just didn’t want to do the work. I didn’t want to stress about the house being extra clean and organized. Or think about the clean up.
So we’re not hosting Thanksgiving this year because its my birthday.
My fabulous brother-in-law offered to cook a giant meal in his little apartment. We will probably be cramped. We won’t have the kids toys. We won’t have space to have a sit-down-dinner. But that’s ok. We’ll still be together.
I’m thankful for my family, my extended family and for the many blessings we have in our lives this year. And that’s what I want to teach my kids about Thanksgiving.
I’m not a bad mom because I chose not to host Thanksgiving on my birthday.
I’m very thankful for all of you and for the many guest writers who have graced my blog. Thank you for coming here whenever you can to be a part of something special. Its been such a beautiful and empowering year. A year of grief and sadness too. But mostly I’m so thankful to have created this space for myself, my loved ones and all of you.
Much love,
Cristi

Hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Happy belated birthday Cristi!! I think you made a perfectly reasonable decision, I would have done the same for sure! I hope that despite being crowded, your Thanksgiving was lovely, and your birthday part of the day was even better. 🙂
