This week I have the honor–as a member of the Warrior Moms Leadership Team–of managing the Postpartum Progress blog. It is the world’s most widely-read blog on postpartum depression and all other mental illnesses related to pregnancy and childbirth. The site focuses on positive messages of empowerment and recovery, because PPD is temporary and treatable with professional help.
Today I’m talking about how needing mental health medication is not a weakness. It took me a long time to realize that my meds are as vital and necessary (for me) just as if I took insulin for diabetes, or snythroid for hypothyroism, or even wore glasses for bad eyesight, or a cast for a broken leg. Getting the treatment I need is a strength. But I know many of us have not felt that way.
Please head over to “Needing Medication is Not a Weakness” and share it with someone you love. You just might send them hope that they’re not alone.
