Earlier this year I joined the blogging community Social Fabric. I love it. Its a network of all types of bloggers who offer support, brainstorming, education, and opportunities for work-at-home bloggers like me to earn money and contribute to their families’ financial welfare. The campaign managers and clients treat us as the professionals we are, and I really appreciate that.
Each year Social Fabric hosts holiday gift exchanges within the community, and one in which I am very happy to participate is the virtual gift exchange. I love this idea, basically each of us who participates is assigned a fellow blogger to feature on our blog. A gift of time and words in the true spirit of giving. Not things, just positive intention and sentiment.
So today I’d like to introduce you to Becca of Bare Feet on the Dashboard @beccaeby. I just love the name of her blog. It embodies the beautiful imagery of cruising through life with your feet up, enjoying the ride.
In her own words, “I chose the title of my blog because that is my favorite way to ride. Whether it is on a long road trip or just cruisin’ around town, I love to have my shoes off and my feet up (or maybe out the window). My husband actually hates it when I ride this way because he is convinced my legs will be crushed if we get in a wreck. I’m a bit of a rebel with a gypsy soul, and that’s what Bare Feet on the Dashboard represents.”
Becca started blogging in 2010 while pregnant with her first child affectionately called “The Bear.” She’s obviously very passionate about her family (husband Jed, her son and her daughter “The Pearl Girl”), financial freedom (don’t we all need to learn more about that!?) and her faith. She says,“We try to live for Jesus and live free from debt. I have an endless to-do list of crafts to create, books to read, recipes to try, places to see, and pounds to lose. As a former wild child and shopaholic, my life now is true evidence of God’s workmanship.” While I myself am not religious, I can appreciate a person who truly lives her Christian values. Who cherishes her own beliefs and loves unconditionally.
One of the features of her blog that really stands out to me are her wonderful handmade craft projects, as well as features of her favorite ideas from others (her Pinterest board is a wealth of information, and she has quite a following). I have no idea how she has the time to create such adorable things raising two littles, but she certainly does. Its all a part of her frugal yet full lifestyle. Some of my favorites are her Burlap Wreath for All Seasons, a Ribbon Mobile for Baby’s Nursery, and DYI Instagram Magnets (so cute! I love this idea!)
The other area of interest that stands out are her posts about frugal living and financial freedom. In late 2009, Becca and Jed started down their own road to financial freedom, and with incredible fortitude, got serious about paying off their debts. In just four months they paid off $13,000 in debt and were totally debt free for the first time in their lives. They cut up their credit cards and started using cash. At that point they began saving an emergency fund of 3 months expenses and began investing in their retirement…all within one year. Very impressive! She shares her experiences and ideas, and with that history, I sure think she’s a voice to listen to.
Check out her Frugal Friday feature.
I want to thank Social Fabric for virtually “introducing” me to Becca and offering this opportunity to give this kind of gift to a fellow blogger. Its certainly a vast and varied community full of passionate, hard working professionals, and I for one am honored to be a small part of it.
