Disclosure: We received tickets to a screening of #BigHero6 to facilitate this review. As always, opinions are my own.
Big Hero 6 is an original action-comedy-adventure by Disney Animation Studios, the team behind Frozen and Wreck-it-Ralph, about a robotics prodigy, 14-year-old Hiro, and an inflatable robot Baymax, who develop a bond on a quest to solve a mystery. Our family has been so excited for this film since seeing the preview many moons ago, and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
Big Hero 6 is set in an incredible fictional city called San Fransokyo that cleverly melds the style and architecture of two of the world’s most interesting cities. I absolutely love the setting and the creative ways both San Francisco and Tokyo are highlighted in this film. The art and animation is just stunning.
The story itself is a full blend of fun action, humor, and deep feeling and emotion. It’s so cleverly done.
After a devastating event befalls the city, Hiro and Baymax team up with other brilliant science geeks to form a band of high-tech heros called “Big Hero 6.”
The team goes well out of their comfort zone, the science lab, and uses each of their unique talents and gifts to fight the “bad guys” and save the city, and learn a lot about themselves in the process.
This is a story of true heroes, and what it takes to find passion, strength and friendship in the midst of loss and uncertainty. At the core, it’s about family, the kind you’re born with and what you find. I definitely shed a tear or two, but in the next minute found myself laughing out loud many times (as did John and the kids: Ellie 4-1/2 and Ronin 7). We really enjoyed it.
Big Hero 6 opens in Theaters Friday, November 7 in both 3D and 2D.
I highly recommend taking the family, and don’t be surprised if you see us in the theater too.
