Day 25 of 30 Days of Positive Affirmations is about making sure that I’m in the picture, both figuratively and literally.
I was looking back through photos of family events during the past year and I noticed a few big days–like Ronin’s 8th birthday, my niece Lola’s 1st birthday, and our last family vacation to Great Wolf Lodge–where there are absolutely no photos of me. I try very hard to make sure that I come out from behind the camera at big family events or on vacations because I know it’s important to actually BE IN the family photo memories. It’s something I take seriously. So I was surprised to notice so many times when I hadn’t taken my own advice.
The sole focus does not always need to be on the kids, in a literal photography taking sense, but also in a I’m a mom taking care of my family sense. It’s important for us to be in the picture. To be a part of the action and to be a part of the photographic memories that result.
So today’s affirmation is about just that…
Affirmation #25
Today I remind myself that I am important. That I belong in the picture. That my kids will want me to see me there when they grow up. I love seeing photos of me and my mom from when I was little, not just to see what I looked like but to see her too.
When it comes to photography, I do have a 2 tips for making sure you get in the photos. They are simple yes, but we don’t often remember to do this. So today, I hope you’ll repeat this little affirmation and then make a point to do these two things at family events or even just in the day to day.
#1 Take a Selfie.
Here’s one I took with Ellie on her 6th birthday. I’m sorry that I didn’t do the same for Ronin’s 8th! Those are sweet memories you’ll always remember.
#2 Hand Someone Else the Camera.
I have gotten MUCH better about doing this, and I have a couple people who I know I can always rely on when the time comes for me to jump in the photos. My friend Julie and my brother Ron are two of my go-to people! Thanks guys! (Also from Ellie’s 6th birthday, this one was taken by Julie. ) 🙂
Do you put yourself in the photos? Are you an important part of the picture?
